Asma T. Uddin serves as Legal Counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a Washington, D.C.-based public interest law firm protecting the free expression of all religious traditions, whose recent cases include the Supreme Court landmark ruling in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby (2014). Uddin is also the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of altmuslimah.com, a web magazine dedicated to issues on gender and Islam. Asma speaks and publishes widely on issues of gender and faith, and national and international religious freedom. She serves on the Islam and Religious Freedom Advisory Council and The Institute for Global Engagement's Center for Women, Faith & Leadership Advisory Council. Uddin is a 2005 graduate of The University of Chicago Law School, where she was a member of The University of Chicago Law Review. She earned her Bachelor’s degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Miami in 2002, with a double major in Religious Studies and English.
